The Near North region is home to exciting introductory river travel. Routes are handpicked for each group to match participants’ age and experience. Depending on the length of the session, groups embark on a 9-day trip, a single 15-24-day trip, or a shorter trip on the nearby Temagami River to learn and practice safe river travel before undertaking a more extended expedition.
Shorter, 9-day trips usually travel the Spanish or Missassagi Rivers for drop pool rapids ideal for beginners. Longer 15-24 day trips paddle one of the “three sisters” in nearby Quebec. The Dumoine, Noire, and Coulonge run parallel into the Ottawa River. The rivers are similar but offer unique opportunities for various skill levels. Groups enjoy the sights and sounds of the river while they camp beside large rapids and falls such as Chute a l’Ours on the Coulonge, paddle the nearly continuous rapids of the lower Noire, and navigate Red Pine Rapids on the Dumoine.
